How does the general public interpret what it hears in the news about the current economic crisis? How does the general public determine whether or not the current bailout or buyout bill is going to solve the problem in the right way? It’s not possible without an understanding of some of the most basic roots of the problem. Let’s deal with one problem that could be solved today, if the government had the will and no ulterior motives.
“Mark to Market Accounting” (Don’t get bored. This is easy to understand and it affects you directly.)
The Financial Accounting Standards Board Statement No. 157 “Fair Value Measurements”,[2] (FASB 157) which became effective after November 15, 2007.[3]requires banks and lending institutions to re-evaluate the worth of the loans/mortgages based on the constantly changing market price. Therefore, if the market is wildly inflated, then the balance sheets of the banks reflect an inflated asset value. In this case, investors may look at the banks’ balance sheet and buy their stock because it appears to be highly successful. On the other hand, if the market value plunges, so do the asset values of the banks and lending institutions, giving the appearance of a bank or institution that is failing. The underlying asset, let’s say a house in the case of a mortgage loan, is still sitting there unchanged – bricks and mortar, AND the borrowers may still be paying the loans back as agreed, but it’s value on paper has gone up or down and probably back again.
The intention was to try and give a true value of assets at a specific point in time. However, in a volatile market, the banks and institutions end up with volatility on their balance sheets. This can cause and has caused chaos resulting in mergers, acquisitions and closings of these companies. Their investors and depositors, even their customers can loose out.
The next result is that credit is not available. This hurts everyone.

FASB 157 addressed the issue of market volatility this way:

Section 132 of the proposed Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, titled “Authority to Suspend Mark-to-Market Accounting” restates the Securities and Exchange Commission’s authority to suspend the application of FAS 157 if the SEC determines that it is in the public interest and protects investors. Well, where are we now?????
Section 133 of the proposed Act, titled “Study on Mark-to-Market Accounting,” requires the SEC, in consultation with the Federal Reserve Board and the Department of the Treasury, to conduct a study on mark-to-market accounting standards as provided in FAS 157, including its effects on balance sheets, impact on the quality of financial information, and other matters, and to report to Congress within 90 days on its findings.[4]” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_to_market
Why hasn’t this act been excercised in this situation? It would immediatey have stopped the failing of the banks and institutions and allowed time to properly remedy each case. The responsiblity would be that of Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman, Chris Cox, Sec. of Treasury, Hank Paulson, and Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernancke.
Why didn’t this happen? Why don’t we do this now instead of passing a very bad bill strapping the taxpayers with bad debt.
Economics 101: Don’t buy bad debts. Thoroughly research and buy good debt instruments, unless you want to loose money.
This government seems to be determined to buy bad debts rather than suspend the mark-to-market accounting method until things are worked out correctly. Time is needed to place a true valuation on each asset and publish a balance sheet that accurately reflects the assets of the firms. This could stop the bleeding quickly.
Someone please tell us why half of Americans trust Obama with the economy? What is this based on? No education in economics. No experience in economics. Has said nothing of importance on this subject. Was AWOL on the current crisis. Remember, “If they need me they can call me.”????? That was Obama’s initial answer to this emergency. When they called him, what did he do or say? He resisted going to Washington. He wanted to get in front of the cameras and debate to get himself elected. McCain WAS asked by Democrats to come to Washington and tell us what he wants us to do – Harry Reid. The President called McCain and Obama to come to Washington. McCain was already on his way. Obama reluctantly went.
Is anyone suspicious of the timing of this? It’s been said that Obama benefits if the issue is the economy. What happens just a few weeks before the election? The economy is purported to be on life-support – rather suddenly! Bam! Obama pulls ahead, when just days before, McCain was ahead.

ulson drafted a bill giving himself Czar-like powers over our entire economy and sold the President on the urgency of granting it to him. Paulson is from Chicago. So is Obama.
Perhaps there’s no connection, just a coincidence. But I will say that Chicago keeps popping up everywhere there is a good thing for Obama and a bad thing for McCain.
Execute the emergency suspension of mark-to-market today!
CAll your representatives and ask them why this hasn’t been done and if they will call for it. Calling for the removal of Paulson is another idea worth considering.

Obama is for amnesty for illegals, abortion (I call infanticide) and legalization of marijuana. He has said that he doesn’t think we should criminalize marijuana use, but isn’t saying we should legalize it. What does that mean? It’s straddle the fence. Don’t make a commitment that a voter could hold him to, but the intent is clear. Don’t make it illegal to use marijuana. Remember that he admitted to using it, and inhaling because that was the point, and not just once, but over a long period of time. He also admitted to using cocaine. When did he stop using marijuana?
Where are those people with morals and convictions?
It’s ironic that we are here again.

Time for a Boston Tea Party – September 29, 2008
People, it is time for an old-fashioned Boston Tea Party. Whatever your view of the current Washington-created economic crisis, we only have two options: McCain or Obama. That’s it.
Neither McCain nor Obama have the slightest clue about what is going on. Do your own Google search into the education and background of both candidates and you will NOTfind any college education in economics. McCain – Naval Academy. Obama – law.
Neither candidate has run a country, a state, a city or a company.
The difference between these two men is that Obama will listen and respond to the “OZ behind the curtain” and McCain will not listen to anyone. What McCain calls “maverick”, I call “stubborn and self-centered.” And for Pete’s sake! Who IS the OZ BEHIND OBAMA’S CURTAIN? Is it George Soros? Is it someone more sinister? Is it Jeremiah Wright or Louis Farakhan? Is it Bill Ayers? Who knows? I’m not willing to risk any of them.
McCain’s view seems to be that he absolutely MUST become president and has little time left to make that happen. Obama can run another day. Therefore, constituents have the power to pressure McCain into doing the right thing, satisfying his voter base BEFORE the election. It’s great that this economic debacle has come up before McCain realizes his dream of becoming POTUS.
Call McCain’s office immediately and demand that he fight the Democrats, stop the socialization of our economy, put ACORN on notice that their criminal activity is over because they will either comply with the law or sit in prison through the election, prosecute the crooks that are currently in the House of Rep’s, the Senate and in cabinet positions, cut taxes, drastically cut the spending and get the gov’t out of everything that the gov’t has no business being in. You can provide your own list of what those things might be.

BANK BAILOUT BILL, ACORN AND OBAMA – September 28, 2008

Paulson was once the Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, so he understands how those companies work and how they affect the country’s economy and, more importantly, each one of us. He is a multi-millionaire, and reportedly recieved millions in compensation packages from Goldman Sachs, which was completely legal. He is also a member of the International Monetary Fund Board of Governors.
The original Paulson Plan was three pages. After Democrat representatives got involved, it has swollen considerably. As always happens, politicians saw an opportunity to add their favorite pork and pet projects to a bill that is pushed “hard” as an emergency. They hope that opponents will not have time to read all the additions and block them.
The scariest and most insulting “tack on” expense is an effort to give 20% of any profits to ACORN.

They’ve been indicted in many states across the country for voter fraud. Connecting the dots, it’s easy to see that if ACORN commits voter fraud and pushes hard to get Obama elected, then the net result would be that Obama was elected fraudulently!
Democrats certainly KNOW who ACORN is, what they do and that they are working hard to get Obama elected, and they still put the ACORN clause in the bank bailout bill. That’s a blatant misuse of the public trust.
No taxpayer should ever be forced to use their hard-earned tax dollars to help elect the candidate they oppose! Absurd! Those Democrats should be named and exposed and sanctioned officially.
Obama was a community organizer who has bragged about his work with Project Vote, registering voters in South Side Chicago. He has ties to ACORN’s Voter Registration arm and ACORN’S Housing arm.
Remember Obama’s association with Tony Rezko. As an Illinois Senator, Obama gave a lot of money to Rezko to be spent on low income housing. Most of those turned out to be slums and some went into default and were shut down or never opened. Rezko is going to jail for fraud. Obama is in it up to his neck.
Obama directed Illinois Project Vote from April to October 1992, a voter registration drive with a staff of 10 and 700 volunteers that achieved its goal of registering 150,000 of 400,000 unregistered African Americans in the state, leading Crain’s Chicago Business to name Obama to its 1993 list of “40 under Forty” powers to be. [20][21] In this role, Obama coordinated with the Chicago chapter of ACORN, a nationwide social action group that has supported Obama throughout his political career.

Earlier this week, the Democrats gave Obama credit for laying out the plan that supposedly had a consensus to save the economy. He did not. There was no consensus, as we learned later. But if Obama had laid out that plan and it included money for ACORN, that would be a terrible misuse of the public trust and in my opinion, criminal.
Video of the ACORN 2008 convention shows Calif. Rep. Maxine Waters, Democrat, speaking and telling the attendees to vote for Obama. She is a poitician in Washington who knows that no money for ACORN belongs in the bailout bill.
If you’re unhappy about the bailout, contact your representatives immediately. Don’t wait. They are determined to push something to finality by Monday morning.

While the news media is deciding who won the debate on points, i.e. debate style, attacks, defense, memorable sound bytes, etc., I’m looking, not at a focus group, but at a group focused on the destruction of Israel and America.
On the very day of our presidential campaign debate between Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama, thousands and thousands of Iranians were marching in Tehran, chanting “Death to America, Death to Israel” and flaunting a book which mocks the Holocaust, contains lies, distortions, outright denials of the holocaust and cartoons that depict Jews in an ugly way. The chanting Iranians burned the Israeli flag and the American flag. This was their own Al Quds (Jerusalem) Day, celebrated every year to keep Islamists stirred up with hatred toward Israel AND AMERICA and encourage more suicide attacks on Israel.

While Sen. McCain reminded viewers that Obama once said that Iran was a small country and not a big threat to America, Iranians were burning the American flag. While McCain was reminding viewers that Obama said repeatedly that he would sit down with Iran’s resident lunatic leader, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was telling millions of Iranians that Israel’s continued existence was an insult to human dignity.
John McCain landed the most effective punch of the evening when he responded to Obama’s declaration that he reserved the right as president to sit down with anyone he wanted to at any time, to which McCain broke in with, “So let me get this right. We sit down with Ahmadinejad, and he says, ‘We’re going to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth,’ and we say, ‘No, you’re not? Oh, please!”
Obama was struck like a deer in the headlights. No place to hide. The point was clear. What can be gained by sitting down with a murderous lunatic? If nothing else illustrated Obama’s lack of experience and understanding of world affairs, this DID.
McCain closed by stating his experience and knowledge of world affairs to which Obama had nothing to compare.

If you like lies, then you’ll love Democrats in office. Of course, that would be nothing new. Today Sen. Harry Reid held a press conference to lie about Sen. John McCain and attack him unfairly and cruelly, the worst case of presidential politics you will ever see….maybe. The Democrats can always come up with worse behavior.
To lay the groundwork, Sen. Reid first said he didn’t want McCain to come back to Washington to discuss the economic “crisis” and the banks bailout bill. He didn’t want “presidential politics” to spoil the negotiations.
Then he said we need McCain to tell us what he wants them to do. Wouldn’t it be great for Democrats if McCain, who had not been in any of the negotiations or discussions with fellow representatives and senators yet, to make a decision and tell it to them?! They would immediately spin it into some kind of draconian position that would kill all Americans immediately, and make that view public. Their press conference would come within minutes of McCain’s phone call.
McCain is too smart for Reid. He isn’t going to be lassoed by anyone of Reid’s caliber. When McCain announced that he would return to Washington and go to work – after all – he IS a Senator elected by the people of the state of Arizona to represent them, and they certainly need protection in this issue – Reid got worried. He said they don’t need McCain to come back.
Had McCain stayed away, Reid would have blasted him for not engaging in this country’s worst economic crisis ever, since 1929, so they say. If he had agreed to support the current plan, Reid would have blasted McCain for going along with Bush and warning people that a McCain presidency would be a third Bush term. Had McCain opposed the plan, Reid would have blasted him for blocking efforts to stop a financial meltdown and make McCain responsible for bank and investment firm failures, and the demise of the American people.
McCain knows Reid too well to fall for any of the above. And there’s the chance that McCain truly has principles which he intends to operate by. McCain will do what he has always done. He will ignore criticism by both parties and make his decision based on what he believes is right.
McCain has been a Senator for so many years, that it comes quite naturally to him, to get back to work when a problem arises. That’s exactly what he did. He is a senator first and a candidate secondly. He receives his salary for his work as a senator, not as a candidate. He went to Washington to earn his paycheck aand fulfill his responsibility, unlike Senator Obama.
A candidate is really nothing, when you think about it. They have no power at all. They have not been elected yet and may not be. They were not hired to be a candidate and do not receive paychecks for work done as such. Obama put his desire to be president above his obligations as a senator and above representing the people of Illinois who will be impacted by this bill or lack thereof.
Reid’s phraseology,” we don’t need presidential politics injected into the negotiations,” is simply spin to try and keep McCain from doing his job and give cover to Sen. Obama who has been AWOL on this. Reid wanted a small number of Democrats and Republicans to make the decisions that will affect the whole country. That is not fair representation and not how this country was set up to work. That is too much power in the hands of too few. And this involves a HUGE amount of money in the hands of government, who has a bad track record so far.
And the big lie in today’s press conference:
#1. Reid directly said that the principles of this bill that House and Senate Democrats and Senate Republicans agreed to are those laid out by Senator Obama, who had not even been there until yesterday afternoon after Pres. Bush called him and asked him to come. Obama reluctantly went because he didn’t want to be the only one not present when it aired on television news. Remember, up until that point, Obama had said that he wasn’t going, steadfastly objected to McCain going, and wanted the debate in Mississippi to be first priority. Obama’s public statement until then was, “If they need me, they can call me.” Whoop-di-do!
So President Bush called him in order to try and get a bi-partisan agreement. Once again, Bush has reached across the aisle, but will not get credit for it. This was a perfect opportunity for Obama to bring both parties together, build unity, change the way politics work in Washington, solve our nation’s problems, as he has been promising for almost a year in his campaign speeches. This was his opportunity to show us that he can keep those promises. He did not. He can’t. If he is president, it will be just like yesterday. It’s been reported that Obama didn’t even say that much, nor did McCain.
#2. Reid said that they had an agreement until McCain got there and it all fell apart. FALSE! Reid knows he is lying and so does everyone that was in that room. What audacity! But that’s what the Democrats’ presidential campaign has been about – the audacity of hope and change. It is reported that McCain didn’t say much at all. IT WAS REID WHO STARTED LOOSING HIS TEMPER AND YELLING.
Once tempers flare and yelling commences, negotiations break down. No one responds well to yelling and temper tantrums. Respect and listening to each others’ points of view stops when yelling starts. Rudeness kills respect. McCain had no part in causing the failure yesterday.
Republicans are saying that there was never an agreement at any time. If Reid and his bunch agreed, that is not an agreement. It must include both parties in both houses and the White House.
Those are the two biggest lies told yesterday and today. There are many misrepresentations, too many to address here.

Even as a former U.S. Senator and President of the U.S. Senate. Al Gore refused to make the Personal Energy Ethics Pledge presented to him by the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works which reads as follows:
“As a believer:
that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical and spiritual issue affecting our survival;
that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use;
that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emssions; and
that leaders on moral issues should lead by example;
I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008.”

Al Gore wants everyone else to cut back, change their life style and sacrifice conveniences and comfort, while he continues to live a lavish life style . It’s a case of do as I say, not as I do.

“If you’re a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration.” He went on to say, “I believe for a carbon company to spend money convincing the stock-buying public that the risk from the global climate crisis is not that great represents a form of stock fraud because they are misrepresenting a material fact. I hope these state attorney generals around the country will take some action on that.”
Gore wants young people to commit a crime, go to jail, spend a lot of money on their defense, acquire a civil or criminal record, interrupt their productive lives, delay the realization of their goals, suffer anxiety while in the legal entanglement that goes with all of this, all the while he is jetting around in a plane, dining with Hollywood mental midgets, receiving awards and acclaim, living lavishly in his mansion, his farm and ritzy hotels, and in general, using an exorbitant amount of energy that they are asked to conserve.
Why isn’t Gore committing civil disobedience? Why isn’t he on the front lines? Why isn’t he marching and involved at the line of battle where he is sending young people? How much more would HIS presence at a construction site, being handcuffed and put into a police car, influence people on the issue?
“DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO!”
There is no material fact. Scientists disagree on whether or not the climate is warming and if so, what is causing it. Some scientists see global cooling right now and they are not crediting Al Gore for accomplishing this through his alarmist efforts. The jury is still out on all of these questions.
The point is: If Al Gore truly believes that the earth is warming and in grave danger of some destruction in ten years, several of which have passed since he first gave his time table, then we should see a definite, major change in his life style and activities. The man should have sold his large properties, moved into a smaller, factually green energy-supplied home, stopped flying around the world continuosly, refused limo rides and hunkered down for the coming disaster. His life hasn’t changed one iota in this sense.
HE WANTS EVERYONE ELSE TO SACRIFICE WHILE HE CARRIES ON AS BEFORE. A SOLAR PANEL DOES NOT CUT IT. THERE SHOULD BE A MUCH MORE NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN HIS LIFE.
Ask yourself what you would do if you really believed all that Gore is saying about the coming destruction and what we should be doing to prevent it. Is Gore doing what you would do?

Environmentalists are so afraid of an oil spill that they hold us all hostage, not caring what the consequences are. They believe that we are not intelligent enough to solve the problems associated with oil drilling and the environment. We have solved them. As a nation, we all suffer loss from not being allowed to drill our own oil here for our own needs.
The Other Side of Ike – September 18, 2008
It’s good to be on the other side of Hurricane Ike. Marbie fared very well, but those in Galveston lost a lot. Some lost their lives.
Hurricane Ike may be the storm of the century for Galveston. The 1915 level four hurricane that hit Galveston is the 4th most devastating storm to hit the U.S. The 1900 Hurricane that killed 6,000 people in Galveston is the second most devastating hurricane to hit this country.
We don’t know the death toll from Ike yet. It currently stands at 20 in the Galveston area and 55 nation-wide. We may never know how many perished on Boliver Peninsula. The sixteen foot seawall built after the 1900 storm greatly reduced the death toll in the 1915 storm to 245. Early warning technology should have greatly reduced the death toll of this storm. However, there were many who didn’t or couldn’t leave Bolivar Peninsula before the storm surge.
The lesson from every storm of this nature is to move to higher ground well in advance of the storm surge. Storm surge is the primary killer. Hurricane force winds account for less deaths. The property left behind is not worth your life.
We’ve just passed the peak of hurricane season and there are a couple of months to go. Let’s not decide to stay behind to protect land, buildings or possessions and die in the surge. Your possessions are worth nothing to you if you don’t survive. Survive first, then re-build your possessions. YOU are what matters most. You contribute a lot to society, your family and your friends. Your top priority is to stay alive to serve another day. We need you.
