Indonesia Takes Down Obama Statue

The “Barry Dream Statue” was inaugurated December 10, 2009 at the moment Pres. Barak Obama received his Nobel Peace Prize in Copenhagen.  The idea was conceived by American Ron Muller, a pizza restaurant owner in Jakarta, Indonesia, who is the president of the “Friends of Obama” organization, a non-profit that raised the statue funds.  Muller’s purpose was to encourage the youth of Indonesia to believe that they can rise to success like little Barry Soetoro Obama who lived in Jakarta for four years until his mother sent him back to the States at age 10.

Controversy arose when two groups began petitioning to have the statue removed, perhaps re-located to the school Barry attended.  They contend that Barry Soetoro, as he was known when he lived in Jakarta, has made no contribution to Indonesia and his statue should not occupy such an honored and visible location.   They pointed out that there are many Indonesian heroes whose contributions have not been adequately recognized or honored and deserve to have statues in the Central Park, rather than an American who has done nothing for the betterment of Indonesia.

Further embarrassment rises from the Nobel Peace Medal around the statue’s neck, which many find inappropriate because Barry Soetoro Obama has done nothing to deserve that honor, either.

It seems that Barry can fool all of the people some of the time, but can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

The statue has come down.

(Pres. Obama is planning to take his family to Indonesia later this year and is quoted as saying that he hoped the statue would remain so that he could show it to his daughters.)
