CONGRESS, STOP SPENDING!!!!STOP SPENDING!!!!!
Congress talks about the need to cut spending, so they know it’s a problem. However, they don’t really want to stop or give up the power they have. Gazillions of tax dollars in their hands are weapons to control people, companies and elections. The money, the handouts, the bailouts, the slush funds, are all used to get what they want, and it’s seldom altruistic, usually self-serving.
When confronted about spending, they take cover under the tired old shield, “What services are YOU willing to give up?” and “Spending cuts must be painful.” Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, education, the military, welfare are always the first to come up. After relinquishing a huge chunk of our wages and inheritances, we’re told that we also have to give up the services which were the reason for our taxes in the first place. Bottom line: You must pay taxes so that the government can provide you with certain services, but after you paid those taxes, they must now cut those services. In addition, you will continue to pay those taxes, and probably have the rates increased. You will pay more and get less.
Never discussed are the self-serving, extravagant expenditures of Congress, like Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi spending $2,993 for flowers between June and October, some of which were for former Congressman Jack Kemp’s funeral. Would it be too much to ask that Congress be frugal with our money, and send one moderately priced flower wreath to the funeral, which is likely to receive lots of flowers from friends, family and other world leaders? There’s no need to purchase fresh flowers for their offices or even for luncheons. Buy artificial arrangements which can be used continuously and look beautiful without much maintenance? It would provide a savings in the long run. Are they so special that it would be a travesty to use artificial flower arrangements instead of buying fresh for every occasion?
Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, must think so.
“In the midst of her state’s dire financial crisis, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has moved her district office to a new state-of-the-art building with an award-winning “green” design at quadruple the monthly rent of the old location.” HER OFFICE IS COSTING TAXPAYERS ” a whopping $18,736 a month for 3,075 square-feet in downtown San Francisco, according to official congressional spending figures cited by the Capitol Hill newspaper that broke the story this week.” http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2010/jun/pelosi-s-office-costs-taxpayers-18k-monthly THAT’S $224,832 per year! ABSURD!!! Taxpayers should throw her out and reduce their expenses.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. The Obama administration did not need to spend $20 million on signs to implant the belief in the minds of future voters that the stimulus money is creating jobs. People who have a job know it and people who do not have a job know it very well – for free. Jobs created to produce the signs will dry up quickly, as will the jobs to build or repair one section of a highway. Cut unnecessary spending everywhere possible. Ban Congresspersons from charging their office donuts to the company (us). Let them buy their own donuts, like the rest of us. Put Congress on a strict budget. Nothing for their own consumption goes on the company tab – no alcohol, flowers, donuts, dry cleaning, decorations, very little travel, no gifts, publication subscriptions, printing unless 100% related to the implementation of their job, etc., etc., etc.
Visit this site for a few more examples of actual spending by Congress – all of which could be cut drastically. Should we care if Congress thinks it’s painful to give up these items? No more than they care if it’s painful for taxpayers to pay more while giving up what they’ve already paid for.
We’ve only looked at the tip of the iceberg. Congress could stop giving away truckloads, no oil tanker loads, of money to foreign governments and terrorist groups like Hamas in Palestine. We could greatly reduce our contributions to the United Nations, and should in light of their utter ineffectiveness and complete corruption around the world. Give the budget to the taxpayers and they can and will find the right places to cut spending. Of course, Congress is not likely to acquiesce.
By the way, when Congresspersons say something stupid like, “It’s just a drop in the bucket,” just remember that every drop is NOT PAID FOR. IT HAS TO BE BORROWED FROM CHINA. Why don’t we allow our kitchen faucets to continuously drip? Because it runs up the bill much higher than it needs to be!
No matter. Keep the pressure on until they fear for their jobs and just maybe…..
