From Yahoo News Online:

In Alaska, extreme cold weather has grounded planes, frozen water pipes, disabled cars, interfered with everyday life, and cancelled events. The statewide freeze is extreme and rare because the temps are sustained over a week and a half at 60 below in Stevens Village and 10, 15 and 19 below in Anchorage. The U.S. Cross Country Ski Championship was even cancelled.

“Food and fuel aren’t coming in and they’re starting to run low in the village, about 90 miles northwest of Fairbanks.”

“The NASCAR of dog-sledding”, the Third Crossing Sled Dog Rendezvous, scheduled for Jan. 23-24 in Frazee, Minnesota was cancelled because the snow was too deep.
